Tenants in the District of Columbia have the right to organize a tenants association (TA) without interference from the owner, management, or their agents (D.C. Official Code § 42-3505.06). The Office of the Tenant Advocate (OTA) works with tenants to form, grow, and sustain tenant associations throughout the District.
OTA relies on tenants and the tenant community to assist us in identifying TAs in need of assistance or tenants interested in forming a TA. We encourage tenant associations to get in touch with us so that they can be added to our listserv and receive updates about important legislation that impact tenants’ rights. Please fill out the TA information form below and email it to either [email protected] or [email protected].
Additionally, tenant associations can join OTA’s Tenant Association Peer Mentorship Program. The mission of the Peer Mentorship Program is to encourage tenant associations to collaborate with their peers to solve challenges and accomplish common goals. By sharing similar experiences and best practices, TAs can inspire each other’s successes.
Please visit our Educational Institute page for a list of class offerings for Tenant Associations.
