The 2nd Annual Tenant-Tenant Association Summit is Here

No other event will empower you with the knowledge and resources of your tenant rights and allow you to meet other renters, tenant associations, experts and organizations from across the city.

(Washington, DC) - The 2nd Annual Tenant/Tenant Association Summit is the event of the year and you want to make sure that you are there!

Following the tremendous success of the initial Tenant/Tenant Association Summit that was held on September 25, 2008, the Office of the Tenant Advocate has scheduled the second leg of this ground breaking tenant’s rights conference that has become an annual event.

Similar to last year's event, the 2nd Annual Tenant/Tenant Association Summit will again be held at the Kellogg Conference Center on the campus of Gallaudet University at 800 Florida Avenue, NE on September 26, 2009. The event times are 9 am to 4 pm. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than the last. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton will deliver the keynote address. In addition, the event will feature Council members Muriel Bowser, Jim Graham, Vincent C. Gray and Harry Thomas Jr.; bedbug expert Richard Kramer, American Red Cross Emergency Response Coordinator Lisa McGee and a host of other experts in rental housing topics. 

The Tenant Summit is an annual event held by the Office of Tenant Advocate that brings together renters, tenant associations, concerned non-profit organizations, businesses, government agencies and officials to discuss and share information, legislation and solutions for renters of residential property in the District of Columbia. It is a unique event held by an agency that is only government agency in the United States created specifically to protect the rights of tenants living in rental property. 

Admission is free, as well as parking, shuttle bus service from the red line metro station a plentiful lunch buffet that will be provided. The summit will have breakout sessions that will cover a variety of informative tenants’ rights topics such as:

  • Unlawful Evictions
  • Developing an Emergency Preparedness Plan for Apartments
  • Bed bug and Pest Control
  • Reasonable Accommodations and Human Rights
  • Effective Tenant Associations
  • New Lead Paint Laws
  • Emergency Housing
  • Tenant Petitions
  • Renters Insurance and much more!

Each breakout session will allow participants to ask questions of the featured speakers.

Transportation
If you are taking public transportation to the summit, Gallaudet University is located near two redline metro stations; the New York Ave. Station and the Union Station Metro stop, from which the shuttle bus to Gallaudet University will pickup and drop off attendees. Simply download the forms and follow the instructions for submission. All of the requirements and guidelines for the Kellogg Conference Center are listed in the documents. Our booths are going fast so it is recommended that you register as soon as possible.
